10m V PA,H 757 <br />Mr. William C. Stafford reported on his attendance at the highway <br />meeting. Commissioner Stafford moved the adoption of the following <br />Resolution: <br />WHEREAS, Senate Bill 290 and House Bill 399 presently pending in the <br />General Assembly of North Carolina provide for a highway construction <br />program in the amount of $8.6 million; and <br />WHEREAS, The construction program provides for Intrastate System <br />improvements which would affect Lee County as follows: <br />(a) Complete four laning of U.S. Highway No. 1 from Henderson to the South <br />Carolina line; <br />(b) Complete four laning of N. C. 87 from Sanford to U.S. Highway 74; <br />(c) Complete four laning of U.S. Highway No. 421 from Greensboro to <br />Sanford, including bypass of Sanford; and <br />WHEREAS, another potential project likely to be considered for the <br />Intrastate System is the four laning of U. S. Highways 15-501 from Chapel <br />Hill to Sanford; and <br />WHEREAS, the construction program provides that of the 45 miles of unpaved <br />road in the State Maintained Secondary Road System 33 miles would be <br />improved by the year 2001 and the remaining 12 miles by the year 2004; and <br />WHEREAS, the construction program provides the potential to increase <br />Powell Bill funding for the City of Sanford and the Town of Broadway; <br />NOW,THEREFORF, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners for Lee <br />County, North Carolina as follows: <br />1. That the foregoing projects are needed and would be of material benefit <br />to the people of Lee County; <br />2. That the construction of the foregoing projects is endorsed and <br />approved and to that end the enactment of Senate Bill 290 and House Bill <br />399 is requested and recommended. <br />Commissioner John R. Dossenbach seconded the motion and upon a vote the <br />results were: <br />AYE: Dossenbach, Matthews, Stafford, Wicker and Cox <br />NAY: None <br />The Chairman ruled the resolution had been unanimously adopted. <br />- 10 - <br />
