10m V PA,H 757 Mr. William C. Stafford reported on his attendance at the highway meeting. Commissioner Stafford moved the adoption of the following Resolution: WHEREAS, Senate Bill 290 and House Bill 399 presently pending in the General Assembly of North Carolina provide for a highway construction program in the amount of $8.6 million; and WHEREAS, The construction program provides for Intrastate System improvements which would affect Lee County as follows: (a) Complete four laning of U.S. Highway No. 1 from Henderson to the South Carolina line; (b) Complete four laning of N. C. 87 from Sanford to U.S. Highway 74; (c) Complete four laning of U.S. Highway No. 421 from Greensboro to Sanford, including bypass of Sanford; and WHEREAS, another potential project likely to be considered for the Intrastate System is the four laning of U. S. Highways 15-501 from Chapel Hill to Sanford; and WHEREAS, the construction program provides that of the 45 miles of unpaved road in the State Maintained Secondary Road System 33 miles would be improved by the year 2001 and the remaining 12 miles by the year 2004; and WHEREAS, the construction program provides the potential to increase Powell Bill funding for the City of Sanford and the Town of Broadway; NOW,THEREFORF, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners for Lee County, North Carolina as follows: 1. That the foregoing projects are needed and would be of material benefit to the people of Lee County; 2. That the construction of the foregoing projects is endorsed and approved and to that end the enactment of Senate Bill 290 and House Bill 399 is requested and recommended. Commissioner John R. Dossenbach seconded the motion and upon a vote the results were: AYE: Dossenbach, Matthews, Stafford, Wicker and Cox NAY: None The Chairman ruled the resolution had been unanimously adopted. - 10 -
