Chairman Cox
instructed the County Manager to prepare a plaque for Mr. Hoyle
in appreciation for his service as Clerk.
The Chairman moved to Item 8 on the agenda, Consideration
of Bond Order Authorizing the Issuance of $14,000.000 Public
Building of the County of Lee.
Commissioner Stafford moved for the same motion he made at
the last meeting, that the voters be allowed to state a
preference as to whether they wished to stay at the present site
or to move to the site on Colon Road, and that we adopt a bond
order of 10 million dollars. The motion was seconded by
Commissioner Dossenbach. Commissioner Wicker offered an
amendment to Commissioner Stafford's motion, to increase the
amount to 14 million dollars, since it is not known which site
the people will choose. The Chairman called for consideration
of the amendment. There was no second on Commissioner Wicker's
amendment.
The County Attorney advised that procedurally as far as the
bond order is concerned, the Board just introduces this today
and takes action on calling a public hearing. His understanding
is that Mr. Stafford's motion is that the proposed draft be
amended to reduce the amount to 10 million, the bond order would
not be voted on today. It is voted on after the public hearing.
Commissioner Stafford amended his motion to read that the bond
order we consider and introduce would be $10 million. The
motion was seconded by Commissioner Dossenbach.
The Chairman asked the County Attorney to repeat
Commissioner Stafford's motion. The motion was in two parts (1)
The voters state a preference to stay at the present site or
move to the site off Colon Road and (2) introduce a bond order
of a maximum amount of $10 million.
The Chairman asked the Clerk to poll the board on
Commissioners Stafford's motion with votes cast as follows:
Commissioner
Matthews
No
Commissioner
Dossenbach
Yes
Commissioner
Wicker
No
Commissioner
Stafford
Yes
Chairman Cox
No
to 2.
The Chairman ruled the motion did not carry by a vote of 3
The Chairman recognized the County Manager who advised that
several months ago we requested proposals from numerous firms
6
