:005 12 plrr 9OF <br />Commissioner Wicker moved to authorize thselling of the <br />39 trash containers to a local scrap dealer for the highest <br />negotiated price. The motion was seconded by Commissioner <br />Stafford and upon a vote the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Dossenbach, Matthews, Stafford, Wicker and Cox <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion carried unanimously. <br />The Board then considered a request from Chatham County for <br />Lee County to endorse the development of a hiking and bikeway <br />trail along a segment of railroad right of way which is up for <br />abandonment. The County Manager requested permission from the <br />Board to entertain some discussions with Mr. Hoffman, Chatham <br />County Manager, concerning this. Chairman Cox directed the <br />County Manager to discuss this with the Chatham County Manager <br />and then make a recommendation. <br />The Chairman went over the information reports included in <br />the agenda package and asked Mr. Joyce if he wanted to speak on <br />a Letter from the Department of Natural Resources and Community <br />Development regarding Community Development Block Grant. Mr. <br />Joyce advised that Lee County ranked 75th out of 152 <br />applications and the program was funded through application <br />number 55. <br />The Chairman advised that he, the County Manager, <br />Vice-Chairman of the Board and the Assistant County Manager <br />attended and participated in the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power <br />Plant exercise and he was very favorably impressed with it. <br />The Chairman asked the County Manager to acknowledge the Board's <br />appreciation to each of the Department Heads who participated in <br />the exercise. <br />The Chairman advised that he had asked Ann Cahall, County <br />Clerk, to prepare a computation of what it would cost to pay all <br />board members who are participating in County government. <br />Currently three boards are paid $20.00 a meeting. The Chairman <br />asked the County Manager to study this and give the Board his <br />recommendation. <br />Commissioner Stafford moved to end the probation of County <br />Manager Cowan and appoint him as permanent County Manager and to <br />increase his salary by $3,000 annually.
