aooK 12 its: 9 <br />Wicker moved the Aget amendment be adopted. Qhe motion was <br />seconded by Commissioner Matthews and upon a vote the results <br />were as follows: <br />Aye: Dossenbach, Matthews, Stafford, Wicker and Cox <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion carried unanimously. <br />County Manager Cowan advised of a request from Lee County <br />Schools to comply with G.S. 115C-525, to designate the Sanford <br />Fire Department Inspector to make all required inspections and <br />reports as required by this statute for all Lee County Schools. <br />Commissioner Matthews moved to designate the Sanford Fire <br />Department Inspector to make all the required inspections and <br />reports. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Wicker and <br />upon a vote the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Dossenbach, Matthews, Stafford, Wicker and Cox <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion carried unanimously. <br />The Chairman advised that he next item on the agenda was <br />Other Business. <br />The Board authorized the County Manager to write a letter <br />to the Mayor of Sanford expressing Lee County's support of their <br />efforts to do something about the rough surfaces at railroad <br />crossings. <br />The Board discussed the possibility of paying all board <br />members who are participating in county government. <br />Commissioner Matthews advised that this has been discussed <br />before during budget committees and if all boards were paid then <br />some boards would have to decrease their membership. It was <br />agreed to look at this for next year's budget. <br />Mr. Joyce advised the Board that he and Don McLaughlin, <br />Recreation Director, have identified about 40 sources for grant <br />funding. Among them are the Duke Foundation, the Reynolds and <br />some local foundations. They have written a letter on Lee <br />County stationery asking for information for various non-profit <br />groups including Friends of the Park, Lee County Arts Council, <br />Downtown Sanford Revitalization Corporation, and other <br />non-profit groups who do not have a professional fund raiser. <br />Most of these foundations want to give money to a non-profit <br />group rather than to a County who is able to raise money from <br />taxes. <br />The Board authorized the County Manager to set up a meeting <br />with the Harnett County Board and the local legislative <br />delegation for either October 30th or November 10th to discuss <br />the Solid Waste Bill. The Board agreed on either November 14th <br />9 <br />
