Several employees who carry supplies from their
offices to their automobiles are forced to carry these supplies
greater distances than necessary because there is no loading
zone. He would like the Board to authorize one loading spot in
front, which could be changed at a later date if needed. After
discussion, the Board agreed for Commissioner Stafford and
Commissioner Wicker who serve on the renovation committee to
handle this as they see fit.
Commissioner Dossenbach reported that the North Carolina
Association of County Commissioners has negotiated a contract
for the selection of AT&T as the preferred long distance carrier
in North Carolina. AT&T and ITT has agreed to pay counties a
minimum of 14% commissions on all calls that would come from a
pay phone within that County. Once the national volume of
monthly charges goes to five million per month, the commission
rate goes to 20% of all calls made. North Carolina is the
second state to do this, the first was Ohio. Ohio has a monthly
commission among all of its counties of $20,000. The
Association is asking counties to fill out a survey form.
Additional information regarding how to actually sign up for the
program will be sent within a couple of weeks.
Commissioner Dossenbach moved to authorize the County
Manager to fill out the survey and send it back to the State
Association.
