MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING <br />OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR <br />THE COUNTY OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday, October 30, 1989 <br />J <br />The special meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the <br />County of Lee, State of North Carolina, convened at Tony's <br />Seafood Restaurant on South Horner Boulevard, Sanford, North <br />Carolina at 6:30 o'clock P.M., October 30, 1989, the same <br />being the time, date and place specified in the call issued by <br />the Chairman. Those present were Commissioners Albert L. Cox, <br />John R. Dossenbach, Jr. Bertha L. Matthews, William C. <br />Stafford, Jr. and Gordon A. Wicker. Chairman Cox declared a <br />quorum present and the meeting open for the transaction of <br />business. <br />Special guests included: Harnett County Commissioners <br />Lloyd G. Stewart, Bill Shaw, Mayo Smith, and Mack Reid Hudson; <br />Harnett County Manager, Dallas Pope. The Lee and Harnett <br />County Legislative Delegation: Senators J. K. Sherron, <br />Joseph E. Johnson, William W. Staton and Representatives <br />Dennis Wicker and C. P. Stewart. Also present was <br />Representative Joe Hackney, Orange County. <br />Chairman Albert L. Cox opened the meeting and welcomed <br />everyone to Lee County. He stated that the purpose of the <br />meeting was to discuss the recent changes in the law <br />concerning solid waste collection and disposal. <br />The invocation was given by County Attorney, K. R. <br />Hoyle. <br />Chairman Cox recognized Commissioner Stafford who gave an <br />overview of Lee County's recent efforts to deal with Senate <br />Bill ill which sets forth goals and objectives for solid waste <br />management in North Carolina by state and local governments. <br />Representative Wicker informed the group of his committee's <br />work in the legislature in this area and asked Representative <br />Hackney to field questions on specific items of the Bill. <br />It was agreed that the County Manager would keep Harnett <br />County advised about Lee County's progress in the area of <br />solid waste disposal and collection. <br />1 <br />
