MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR THE COUNTY OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA Monday, October 30, 1989 J The special meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County of Lee, State of North Carolina, convened at Tony's Seafood Restaurant on South Horner Boulevard, Sanford, North Carolina at 6:30 o'clock P.M., October 30, 1989, the same being the time, date and place specified in the call issued by the Chairman. Those present were Commissioners Albert L. Cox, John R. Dossenbach, Jr. Bertha L. Matthews, William C. Stafford, Jr. and Gordon A. Wicker. Chairman Cox declared a quorum present and the meeting open for the transaction of business. Special guests included: Harnett County Commissioners Lloyd G. Stewart, Bill Shaw, Mayo Smith, and Mack Reid Hudson; Harnett County Manager, Dallas Pope. The Lee and Harnett County Legislative Delegation: Senators J. K. Sherron, Joseph E. Johnson, William W. Staton and Representatives Dennis Wicker and C. P. Stewart. Also present was Representative Joe Hackney, Orange County. Chairman Albert L. Cox opened the meeting and welcomed everyone to Lee County. He stated that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the recent changes in the law concerning solid waste collection and disposal. The invocation was given by County Attorney, K. R. Hoyle. Chairman Cox recognized Commissioner Stafford who gave an overview of Lee County's recent efforts to deal with Senate Bill ill which sets forth goals and objectives for solid waste management in North Carolina by state and local governments. Representative Wicker informed the group of his committee's work in the legislature in this area and asked Representative Hackney to field questions on specific items of the Bill. It was agreed that the County Manager would keep Harnett County advised about Lee County's progress in the area of solid waste disposal and collection. 1
