The <br />motion was seconded by Commissioner Stafford and upon a vote the <br />results were as follows: <br />Aye: Matthews, Stafford, Wicker and Cox <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion carried unanimously. <br />Commissioner Stafford reported the committee on revaluation <br />would present their final report at the next meeting. <br />The County Manager advised that the Triangle J Council of <br />Governments has received official notification that funds are <br />again available to assist the economic development program of <br />this and the other seventeen regions. The 1989 General Assembly <br />approved $55,000 for each council of governments for both years <br />of the biennium provided the share, based on population, for <br />each local government is released to the council of governments. <br />The Triangle J Council of Governments is asking Lee County to <br />release its share of the economic development monies from the <br />State Budget Office to the Triangle J Council of Governments. <br />Money not released reverts to the general funds. <br />Commissioner Matthews moved for adoption of the following <br />Resolution: <br />WHEREAS, in North Carolina the Lead Regional Organizations, <br />as voluntary organizations serving municipal and county <br />governments, have established productive working relationships <br />with the cities and counties across the state; and <br />WHEREAS, many counties and cities continue to need <br />assistance in pursuing economic and community development <br />opportunities, but federal assistance in the form of inter- <br />governmental revenues has been severely curtailed in recent <br />years; and <br />WHEREAS, the 1989 General Assembly has again recognized <br />this need through the appropriation of $990,000 each near of <br />this biennium to help the Lead Regional Organizations assist <br />local governments with grant applications, economic development, <br />community development, support of local industrial development <br />and other activities as deemed appropriate by their local <br />governments; and <br />WHEREAS, these funds are not intended to be used for <br />payment of members' dues or assessments to a Lead Regional <br />9 <br />
