The consensus of the Board of Health <br />was that a major problem was finding a Nurse Supervisor. That <br />position has now been filled and she will start work in <br />January. The Board expressed they hope to see an improvement <br />in morale once she is on board. Overall the picture is <br />getting better. They are pleased with the new facility and <br />are in the process of organizing an open house. <br />No formal action was taken following the discussion. The <br />Chairman on behalf of the Board thanked the Health Board for <br />coming and extended his appreciation for their contribution to <br />Lee County. <br />The Board then observed a short recess. Following the <br />recess, the Board convened with all members present. <br />The next item on the agenda was general discussion with <br />the Social Services Board. The following members of the <br />Social Services Board were present: Mr. Bob Jones, Ms. <br />Virginia Harrington and Ms. Frances Foushee. Also present <br />Mr. Donn Gunderson, Director and Mr. Beady Waddell, Staff <br />Supervisor. <br />Mr. Gunderson advised they have received an allocation <br />for funds for Child Protective Services. The General Assembly <br />provided funds for Lee County of $23,704. The Social Services <br />Department is required by law to promptly respond and <br />investigate all reports of neglect and abuse. The number of <br />reports has increased in Lee County by 42% this past fiscal <br />year. The number of substantiated cases in Lee County has <br />increased by 56 to 67%. The Social Services Board approved <br />the request to create a 3/5-time Social Worker III position to <br />investigate reports of abuse and neglect. The cost would be <br />$9,258 in salary and fringe benefits for a position that would <br />start December 1, 1989. This has an annual cost of $15,873 <br />based upon the current year pay plan (if the position was <br />filled by 1/1/90, the cost would be $7,937 for the remainder <br />of the year. Any one of these amounts is well below the <br />$23,704 provided by the General Assembly. <br />Commissioner Matthews moved for approval of the 3/5-time <br />Social Worker III position. The motion was seconded by <br />Commissioner Dossenbach and upon a vote the results were as <br />follows: <br />Aye: Dossenbach, Matthews, Stafford, Wicker and Cox <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion carried unanimously. <br />There followed a <br />two boards concerning <br />morale.
