~.,~1ri( 12 r~,_ 983 <br />MIN TES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING` <br />OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR <br />THE COUNTY OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />Tuesday, November 14, 1989 <br />The special meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the <br />County of Lee, State of North Carolina, convened in the <br />Commissioners' Room on the second floor of the County Office <br />Building, 200 Wicker Street, Sanford, North Carolina, at 7:00 <br />o'clock P. M., November 14, 1989, the same being the time, <br />date and place specified in the call issued by the Chairman. <br />Those present were Commissioners Albert L. Cox, John R. <br />Dossenbach, Jr. Bertha L. Matthews, William C. Stafford, <br />Jr. and Gordon A. Wicker. Chairman Cox declared a quorum <br />present and the meeting open for the transaction of business. <br />Chairman Albert L. Cox presided and the following <br />business was transacted: <br />The Chairman advised the first item on the agenda was a <br />general discussion with the Board of Health. The following <br />members of the Board of Health were present: Mr. Rex W. <br />Brown, Dr. William B. Adams, Mr. David S. Overton, Dr. Howard <br />L. James, Ms. Ruth Reives, Mr. Garland Smith, Dr. Katherine <br />Settle, Ms. Elaine Matthews, Ms. Etoile Norris and Mr. Eugene <br />Hines, Health Director. <br />There was a discussion of a memo from Mr. Hines dated <br />October 13, 1989 advising of a meeting with the Chatham County <br />Health Director, Environmental Health Supervisor and three of <br />Chatham County's Sanitarians. The purpose of the meeting was <br />to explore the possibility of Chatham County Sanitarians <br />working in Lee County on a contractual basis to help with the <br />backlog of environmental health work. The three Chatham <br />County Sanitarians were willing to work in Lee County under <br />the following conditions: <br />(1) Each Sanitarian work one Saturday per month for <br />approximately four hours doing restaurant inspections. <br />(2) Each Sanitarian would earn $20 per hour plus mileage. <br />Mr. Hines explained that at present they are behind in <br />soil evaluations. If Chatham County Sanitarians performed <br />some of the restaurant inspections, it would free them to <br />spend more time on soil evaluations. <br />There was a general discussion between the two boards <br />about the morale of the Department. Chairman Cox suggested <br />they might assign a personnel committee consisting of several <br />1 <br />
