E. _ Information Meeting Date: December 1, 2008 _ Action Item XX Consent Agenda SUBJECT: Lee County Work First Plan DEPARTMENT: Social Service Department CONTACT PERSON: Brenda B. Potts REQUEST: Approval of the Lee County Work First Plan SUMMARY: General Statue 108A.27 requires each county to develop a biennial Work First Plan describing how their Work First Program will operate. The attached plan was developed by Social Service staff, a group of partners making up the Work First Planning Committee appointed by the Lee County Board of Commissioners and a pubic comment period. As a Standard County, Lee County must follow the current Work First policy which mandates self-sufficiency, personal responsibility, health care and immunizations for the children, keeping children in school, keeping teen parents in school and in the home of their parents, participation in work activities, pay after performance, etc. The plan is made up of the goals of the program incorporating federal and state policy, how Lee County's program will operate in order to achieve those goals, a description of each service, methodology used to carry out the program, eligibility requirements for elements of the program, and coordination of partnerships in the county for service delivery. The plan was approved by the Work First Planning Committee on November 14 and by the Lee County Social Service Board on November 19. BUDGET IMPACT: Cost of the Work First Program is included each year in the Lee County Budget. ATTACHMENT(S): Work First Plan PUBLIC HEARING: N/o PRIOR BOARD ACTION: The Commissioners, at their August 18, 2008 meeting, voted for Lee County to remain a Standard Work First County. This plan implements those instructions. RECOMMENDATION: Approve Plan as presented.
