G. <br />_ Information <br />Action Item <br />Meeting Date: October 20, 2008 XX Consent Agenda <br />SUBJECT: Federal Grant from the United States Department of Justice to <br />Purchase an AFIS Tracker System <br />DEPARTMENT: Sheriff's Department <br />CONTACT PERSON: Chief Randall Butler <br />® REQUEST: Accept $32,750.00 funded from the Federal Government. <br />SUMMARY: The Sheriff's Department was awarded $32,750.00 from the United <br />States Department of Justice. This system is 100% funded from the <br />federal government and requires no match. This system will allow <br />investigators to scan a print from a crime scene and within minutes <br />the new computer system will alert if a match of <br />known prints are located. Currently there is a four to six month <br />backlog with the NC SBI on the same process if submitted to their <br />crime lab.
