G12 MINUTES OF THE BUDGET WORK SESSION OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR THE COUNTY OF LEE. STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA JUNE 16, 2008 The budget work session of the Board of Commissioners for the County of Lee, State of North Carolina, convened at 1:00 p.m. in the Commissioners' Room, Lee County Government Center, 106 Hillcrest Drive, Sanford, North Carolina, on said date. Commissioners present were Robert H. Brown, James C. Kelly, Jerry M. Lemmond, Nathan E. Paschal, John T. Quiggle, Robert T. Reives, and Linda A. Shook. Chairman Brown called the meeting to order and delivered the invocation. ® County Manager John Crumpton presented the following General Fund Summary: FY 2008 • Tax Base: • Tax Rate: • Tax Revenue: • One Penny: • Sales Tax Revenue • Total Budget $4.51 Billion $.75/$100 $32.8 Million $436,725 $10.7 Million $63.9 Million FY 2009 $4.697 Billion $ .75/$100 $34.2 Million $455,610 $10.5 Million $64.4 Million Mr. Crumpton also discussed General Fund Revenues, and General Fund Expenditures. The Board discussed the Sheriff's Department requested budget. Sheriff Tracy Carter stated he asked for four (4) deputy positions in the FY 2007-08 budget and received two of those positions but is still in need of two (2) additional officers. The County Manager's proposed budget recommends one (1) Jailer, two (2) Dispatchers, one (1) Gang Officer (grant funded position), and one (1) Narcotics Officer (grant funded position). Mr. Carter stated he asked for the two (2) deputy officers in order to complete the patrol division. He stated that crime has increased since January of this year and he feels the positions are needed. ® Commissioner Shook stated she had received calls from citizens in her district that were concerned about break-ins and the response time for officers to respond.
