G12 <br />MINUTES OF THE BUDGET WORK SESSION <br />OF THE <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR THE <br />COUNTY OF LEE. STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />JUNE 16, 2008 <br />The budget work session of the Board of Commissioners for the County of <br />Lee, State of North Carolina, convened at 1:00 p.m. in the Commissioners' Room, <br />Lee County Government Center, 106 Hillcrest Drive, Sanford, North Carolina, on <br />said date. Commissioners present were Robert H. Brown, James C. Kelly, Jerry <br />M. Lemmond, Nathan E. Paschal, John T. Quiggle, Robert T. Reives, and Linda A. <br />Shook. <br />Chairman Brown called the meeting to order and delivered the invocation. <br />® County Manager John Crumpton presented the following General Fund <br />Summary: <br />FY 2008 <br />• Tax Base: <br />• Tax Rate: <br />• Tax Revenue: <br />• One Penny: <br />• Sales Tax Revenue <br />• Total Budget <br />$4.51 Billion <br />$.75/$100 <br />$32.8 Million <br />$436,725 <br />$10.7 Million <br />$63.9 Million <br />FY 2009 <br />$4.697 Billion <br />$ .75/$100 <br />$34.2 Million <br />$455,610 <br />$10.5 Million <br />$64.4 Million <br />Mr. Crumpton also discussed General Fund Revenues, and General Fund <br />Expenditures. <br />The Board discussed the Sheriff's Department requested budget. Sheriff <br />Tracy Carter stated he asked for four (4) deputy positions in the FY 2007-08 <br />budget and received two of those positions but is still in need of two (2) additional <br />officers. The County Manager's proposed budget recommends one (1) Jailer, two <br />(2) Dispatchers, one (1) Gang Officer (grant funded position), and one (1) <br />Narcotics Officer (grant funded position). Mr. Carter stated he asked for the two <br />(2) deputy officers in order to complete the patrol division. He stated that crime <br />has increased since January of this year and he feels the positions are needed. <br />® Commissioner Shook stated she had received calls from citizens in her district that <br />were concerned about break-ins and the response time for officers to respond. <br />
