800K D zs <br />MIv TES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR <br />THE COUNTY OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />J <br /> <br />Tuesday, January 16, 1990 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the <br />County of Lee, State of North Carolina, convened at 7:00 P.M. <br />on Tuesday, January 16, 1990, in the Commissioners' room on <br />the second floor of the county Office Building, 200 Wicker <br />Street, Sanford, North Carolina. Those present were: <br />Commissioners Albert L. Cox, John R. Dossenbach, Jr. Bertha <br />L. Matthews, William C. Stafford, Jr. and Gordon A. Wicker. <br />Chairman wicker declared a quorum present and the meeting open <br />for the transaction of business. <br />Chairman Gordon A. Wicker presided and the following <br />business was transacted: <br />The invocation was given by commissioner Cox. <br />The Board next considered the draft of the minutes of the <br />January 2, 1990 Regular Meeting. A correction was made to the <br />draft and following such correction, Commissioner Cox moved <br />that the draft as amended be adopted as the official minutes <br />for said meeting and that they be recorded. Commissioner <br />Matthews seconded the motion and upon a vote the results were <br />as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Matthews, Stafford and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion carried unanimously. <br />Mr. Albert Ankrom, President of the Lee County Senior <br />Center Corporation was recognized. Mr. Ankrom advised that for <br />several years attempts have been made to develop a plan for <br />facilities to operate the programs for senior citizens in Lee <br />County. A coordinating group was formed, and called the Lee <br />County Senior Center Board. This board has been granted <br />tax-exempt corporate status. The Lee County board designated <br />the land for this project in the O.T. Sloan tract. The <br />maintenance of the property, once developed, would be taken over <br />by the County, and the Council on Aging would be housed there, <br />with operational responsibility. Plans for the building have <br />been drawn by Mr. David Polston, an Architect with broad <br />experience in the field. The building will contain 15,000 to <br />18,000 square feet and they are estimating the cost to be in the <br />$50 - $55 square foot range. Since the Senior center will <br />s <br />1 <br />
