Commissioner Cox advised this would answer uestions that <br />have been asked about the composition of our Boards in regard to <br />minorities. Also, this may cause some people to volunteer their <br />services that we don't normally think of in the busy appointment <br />sessions. Commissioner Cox moved that the County Manager be <br />instructed to follow such a procedure. Commissioner Stafford <br />seconded the motion. The matter was discussed at length <br />following which Commissioner Stafford called for a vote and the <br />results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Matthews, Stafford and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion carried unanimously. <br />The County Manager reported that he had received a letter <br />from the Superintendent of Lee County Schools advising that the <br />Board of Education declared a parcel of property surplus at its <br />April 9, 1990 meeting. General Statutes provide that the Board <br />of Education shall provide the Board of commissioners an <br />opportunity to review this property and determine whether the <br />County has any use for it prior to disposing of it. This <br />particular piece of property is on Horner Boulevard directly <br />south of the Barbecue Lodge. Commissioner Stafford moved to <br />advise the Board of Education that the County Commissioners have <br />no interest in this property and authorize them to dispose of it. <br />Commissioner Matthews seconded the motion and upon a voted the <br />results were as follows: <br />Aye,: Cox, Matthews, Stafford and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The County Manager reported that he had talked with Mr. <br />Holder, owner of the local TV station about video taping Board <br />meetings. Mr. Holder advised they would tape the meetings at a <br />cost of $40.00 per meeting. The Board discussed this proposal, <br />but no action was taken. <br />The Board then discussed an upset bid for the Evergreen <br />Street property. <br />Commissioner Cox moved for adoption of the following <br />Resolution: <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of the County of Lee <br />adopted a resolution expressing its desire to dispose of certain <br />surplus property of the County; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board gave public notice of its intention to <br />receive sealed bids, and <br />WHEREAS, the Board received an offer for the purchase of <br />said property in the amount of $22,500.00; and <br />8 <br />
