~nra A~:rAGt4 55 <br />MI ES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR <br />THE COUNTY OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday, June 4, 1990 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the <br />County of Lee, State of North Carolina, convened at 9:30 A.M. <br />on Monday, June 4, 1990, in the Commissioners' room on the <br />second floor of the County Office Building, 200 Wicker Street, <br />Sanford, North Carolina. Those present were: Commissioners <br />Albert L. Cox, John R. Dossenbach, Jr. Bertha L. Matthews, <br />William C. Stafford, Jr. and Gordon A. Wicker. Chairman <br />Wicker declared a quorum present and the meeting open for the <br />transaction of business. <br />Chairman Gordon A. Wicker presided and the following <br />business was transacted: <br />The invocation was given by County Manager, William K. <br />Cowan. <br />The Board considered the minutes for the May 21, 1990 <br />regular meeting. On page four, third paragraph the last <br />sentence was changed to read: "This is the work of this Board <br />and a committee of representatives of the City of Sanford and <br />the Town of Broadway." After this correction, Commissioner <br />Matthews moved that the draft of the minutes be adopted as the <br />official minutes for said meeting and that they be recorded. <br />Commissioner Cox seconded the motion and upon a vote the results <br />were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Matthews, Stafford and Wicker. <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion carried unanimously. <br />The Board next considered a proposal to establish a Travel <br />and Tourism Study Committee. Mr. Earl L. Barker was recognized <br />and advised that he represented a group of citizens in Lee <br />County who are requesting that the Board appoint a five member <br />non-partisan Travel and Tourism Study Committee to determine <br />what direction Lee County should take toward the development of <br />tourism. Commissioner Cox asked Mr. Bob Joyce, Economic <br />Development Director, if the Chamber of Commerce had a Tourism <br />Committee. Mr. Joyce advised the Chamber of Commerce does have <br />a Tourism Sub-Committee, but they are not quite as involved in <br />the detail that Mr. Barker is speaking of. Mr. Barker advised <br />that he has talked with some members of the Chamber of Commerce. <br />1 <br />
