"1 13 23z' <br />(h) Projection of bay windows into required yards: A bay window <br />occupying not to exceed thirty percent (30%) of the width of the <br />building may project not more than three (3) feet into the front <br />yard. <br />(i) Sight distance at intersections: In order to provide an unobstructed <br />view to persons using the streets and roads of Lee County, corner <br />lots shall be clear of all obstructions about two and one-half (2-112) <br />feet and below ten (10) feet in height, except tree trunks and <br />poles, for a distance of twenty (20) feet in each direction from the <br />intersecting point of the edges of pavement of the streets or roads. <br />(j) Yards abutting railroad tracks: No yard shall be required along <br />the side or rear of a nonresidential lot where the side or rear <br />respectively of such lot abuts a railroad track which is or will be <br />used to provide railroad service to the lot. <br />2.2 Modification of Height Limits. <br />(a) Measurement of building height (general): Except as otherwise <br />provided in this ordinance, the height of a building shall be the <br />vertical distance from the mean elevation of the finished grade along <br />the front of the building, or from the established grade where the <br />building is within ten (10) feet of the street line, to the highest <br />point of a flat roof, or to the deck line of a mansard roof, or to <br />the mean height level between eaves and ridge for gable, hip, and <br />gambrel roofs. <br />(b) Parapet walls and cornices: Nothing in this ordinance shall apply <br />to prevent the erection above the height limit of a parapet wall or <br />cornice, extending above such height limit not more than five (5) <br />feet. <br />(c) Appurtenant structures on roofs: Skylights, domes, flagpoles, <br />cooling towers, and structures for the housing of elevator equip- <br />ment, stairways, tanks, fans, air conditioning, or similar equipment <br />required for the operation or maintenance of buildings may be <br />erected above the height limit in any district. <br />(d) Free-standing chimneys, tanks, etc.: Chimneys, smokestacks, <br />tanks, and similar structures which are structurally independent of <br />a building or located directly upon the land may be erected above <br />the height limit in any district. <br />49 <br />
