Qov~ 13 <<rF 1il7 <br />A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE <br />CITY OF SANFORD, COUNTY OF LEE, AND <br />THE LEE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION <br />CONCERNING THE WILRIK PROJECT <br />WHEREAS, the Wilrik property was donated to the County of Lee and <br />the Lee County Board of Education for public purposes in 1966, and <br />WHEREAS, the property has been well utilized since that time by <br />the County of Lee and the Lee County Board of Education as <br />administrative offices, and <br />WHEREAS, the County of Lee and the Lee County Board of Education <br />conducted studies and determined that it was not feasible or in the <br />public interest to rehabilitate the property for continued use for <br />office purposes, and <br />WHEREAS, disposal of the property by the traditional method of <br />public auction could not guarantee development of the property to <br />its highest and best use, and <br />WHEREAS, the Wilrik building is an important local and national <br />historic structure being the most visible building in the downtown <br />area and denoted as a pivotal building in the Sanford Downtown <br />Historic District listed in the National Register of Historic <br />Places, and <br />WHEREAS, the County of Lee , the Lee County Board of Education and <br />the City of Sanford desire to protect and enhance the historic <br />characteristics of the structure and to rehabilitate the structure <br />for a use compatible with the activities of the downtown area, and <br />WHEREAS, the property affords an outstanding opportunity for local, <br />state, and federal governmental agencies to work together to <br />further the economic development of the downtown area and to expand <br />the local tax base, and <br />6 <br />
