Commissioner Matthews seconded the motion and <br />upon a vote the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Matthews, Stafford and Wicker. <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion carried unanimously. <br />The Board next considered matters relating to the Lee <br />County Government Center: <br />Committee report on demolition plan. Commissioner Cox, <br />Commissioner Dossenbach and the County Manager served on this <br />committee. Commissioner Cox reported the committee met with Mr. <br />Derrell Mullins, of Mullins-Sherman Architects and Mr. Hugh <br />Brewer, Maintenance Director, on June 27th. The committee is in <br />agreement that we have maximized the benefit to this project to <br />the extent that we are renovating it for this Board and the <br />County staff that remains in the Wilrik Building to move at some <br />future date. The Architect advised that he could have the plan <br />ready for bid within about 10 weeks after approval from this <br />Board. The County Manager showed the plans to the Board. The <br />Board discussed the plans with the Committee and the County <br />Manager pointed out where the various offices would be. The <br />front door on Hillcrest will be the front entrance for County <br />Government which will include Finance, Economic Development, the <br />Board of Commissioners' Room, Conference Room Manager's Office <br />and Break Room. Mr. Brewer is utilizing Community Service <br />Workers for the demolition, so it is being done at a very <br />inexpensive cost. <br />Approval of Architectural Contract with Mullins-Sherman. <br />The Board discussed the fees for the architectural services. <br />Commissioner Dossenbach asked if 8.5% is standard. The County <br />Manager advised that there is not much of a standard when it <br />comes to renovation. Mr. Mullins talked with Mrs. Fields, <br />Assistant Manager and Finance Officer, last Friday and, because <br />of the type of contract that we are using which requires him to <br />provide his own drawings and no reimbursement for mileage or <br />telephone, he is asking for 8.7%. He also has to provide us <br />with 25 sets of drawings at his expense. Commissioner Cox <br />advised that this percentage is reasonable for renovation work. <br />Commissioner Cox moved that the County Manager be authorized to <br />proceed with a contract with the firm of Mullins-Sherman <br />Architects for a fee of 8.7%.
