Commissioner <br />Dossenbach seconded the motion and reiterated that in no way is <br />-this Board trying to take away any duties that the Social <br />Services Board, of which he is a member, has. However, it is <br />our responsibility to the citizens of Lee County to see that the <br />money is spent properly. <br />Commissioner Cox reiterated a statement he made in the <br />Sanford Herald commending the paper for that public service and <br />calling this to the attention of the citizens in Lee County who <br />pay for these services. He also advised that it is his <br />inclination to let the Social Services Board react to this <br />before this Board gets involved. He advised that he felt this <br />could be perceived as questioning the validity of the Social <br />Services Board. He advised he has no problem with having Mr. <br />Renfrow audit the figures, but he felt the Social Services Board <br />should be the one to call Mr. Renfrow. Commissioner Dossenbach <br />advised that the Social Services Board will meet Thursday <br />afternoon. <br />The Board discussed the matter at length. After <br />discussion, upon a vote the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Matthews, Stafford and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion carried unanimously. <br />Mr. Leonard Barefoot, Director Planning, was recognized. <br />Mr. Barefoot reported that the Planning Board recommended denial <br />of the request to rezone 14.45 acres of land located at the <br />intersection of U.S. Highway 1, Deep River Road, and the Deep <br />River from Residential Agricultural to Highway Commercial. The <br />petition was submitted by the owners, Jerry L. and Judith Nance. <br />The Planning Board in its recommendation cited the proximity to <br />the river, lack of public utilities, and the large percentage of <br />land area subject to flooding as major factors leading to the <br />denial of the request. <br />Commissioner Cox moved to sustain the majority vote of the <br />Planning Board and deny the rezoning request. Commissioner <br />Stafford seconded the motion and upon a vote the results were as <br />follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Matthews, Stafford and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion carried unanimously. <br />Mr. Donn Gunderson, Director Department Of Social Services, <br />was recognized. Mr. Gunderson requested approval of a renewal <br />contract for attorney services. The Auditor advised that their <br />contracts did not have definite ending and beginning dates and <br />they are in the process of asking the Attorney to re-draft the <br />2 <br />
