PETTY <br />11 <br />C J <br />WHEREAS, Major Roscoe Petty was a 35 -year veteran of the Sanford Police Department and passed <br />away on Saturday, January 28, 2006, after a long battle with cancer; and <br />WHEREAS, Major Petty began his employment with the City of Sanford as a patrol officer in 1970 and <br />was made Shift Captain in 1992, and in 1999 promoted to Major; and <br />WHEREAS, Major Petty was a dedicated officer and a good community leader and family person who <br />took great pride in his work and serving the citizens of Sanford and Lee County; and <br />WHEREAS, Major Petty was a professional law enforcement officer, had great respect and loyalty for his <br />fellow officers, and treated everyone equally; and <br />WHEREAS, Major Petty was an honorable gentleman serving his family, church, and community well, <br />and he will be greatly missed by his family and many friends and co- workers; and <br />WHEREAS, Major Petty was a former member of the Lemon Springs Volunteer Fire Department, worked <br />with local Boy Scout troops, and served as a trustee and treasure for Mt. Nebo Freewill Baptist Church. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lee County Board of Commissioners wishes to extend <br />its condolences to the family of Major Roscoe C. Petty and does hereby honor his memory for a life of <br />outstanding service, contribution, and commendable leadership to his commun>o -. <br />Adopte the 6'" day of February 2006. 1 <br />Oa , <br />Ro Spon Herbert A.
