being the best means of protection. Commissioner Stafford
asked if there is a foam truck in Kernersville. Mr. Godwin
stated that Kernersville's Fire Department has foam
capability incorporated in their water trucks. It was
determined that the foam applicator could be integrated into
our equipment, but it would be better to have the foam truck
located on the site.
Commissioner Wicker inquired about some tires that have
been disposed in the Northwest Pocket area. Mr. Cameron
indicated that this has been reported to the State and is
being investigated.
Commissioner Stafford asked why ARS wants to shred the
tires at the site versus processing them in Kernersville.
Mr. Godwin stated that in five days the tires can be
processed and loaded by three men and transported by twelve
to fifteen trucks to Kernersville. If these tires are not
processed first and loaded manually, it would require
approximately thirty tractor trailers, with two men working
180 man hours loading the tires, plus transportation costs
involved between this site and Kernersville. Commissioner
Stafford stated that there would be no stockpiling involved
and no need for the foam truck; the processed tires would be
loaded onto the truck and transported immediately. After
further discussion, Mr. Godwin withdrew his request in order
to keep credibility with the Board.
Mr. Leonard Barefoot, Director of Planning, was
recognized and presented the following recommendations from
the Planning Board for the Board to consider:
A. Petition to Division of Highways to add Lemon
Heights Drive to the State system for maintenance;
B. Final plat approval for Westbrooke Subdivision,
Section II; and
C. Nance rezoning request.
Mr. Barefoot indicated that the letter of credit is no
longer required since the street paving has been completed
on the Westbrooke Subdivision request.
Commissioner Cox moved to approve the three requests as
recommended by the Planning Board. Commissioner Stafford
seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as
follows:
Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Stafford, and Wicker
Nay: None
The Chairman ruled the motion carried unanimously.
Chairman Wicker stated that Mrs. Alice Hairston,
6
