Mr. Barefoot stated that <br />approximately 28 acres will be rezoned. <br />Commissioner Cox moved to adopt the request as recommended <br />by the Planning Board. Commissioner Wicker seconded the <br />motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford, and <br />Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion adopted unanimously. <br />Mr. Barefoot stated that the Broadway Planning Board <br />received a petition from several residents who live off Vernon <br />Street, a residential street located in Broadway's planning <br />jurisdiction. The residents live along a portion of the road <br />which was constructed by the Department of Transportation when <br />US Highway #421 was widened several years ago and their access <br />moved. The residents wish to have an additional 200 feet of <br />their road taken over for maintenance by DOT. The Broadway <br />Planning Board unanimously recommends that the petition be <br />forwarded to the Division of Highways with a favorable <br />recommendation. <br />Commissioner Hall moved to forward the petition to the <br />Division of Highways as recommended by the Broadway Planning <br />Board. Commissioner Paschal seconded the motion, and upon a <br />vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford, and <br />Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion adopted unanimously. <br />Mr. Barefoot stated that the Lee County Planning Board in <br />support of the Lee County Environmental Affairs Board's efforts <br />to study and catalog natural and fragile areas in Lee County, <br />recommends that the Board of Commisisoners allow Lee County <br />Grants Administrator Bob Joyce to seek grants and funding to <br />conduct such a study. Neither board is asking the county to <br />commit any local funds to their project. It is felt there are <br />sufficient funds available from the private sector to provide <br />any match which may become necessary. Commissioner Matthews <br />asked if the Lee County Soil and Water Conservation District <br />could conduct the study. He stated that a certified botanist <br />would be required by the State to conduct the study. The Board <br />of commissioners would control the aspects of the study. <br />Chairman Stafford stated that if there are areas of this study <br />that the County would be able to do to save on expenses, it <br />should be investigated. Commissioner Hall asked Mr. Barefoot <br />how much the study would cost. Mr. Barefoot stated that the <br />5 <br />
