Boos 13 pfcc WC <br />dozens of services to our people; and <br />WHEREAS, counties are on the front line of addressing many <br />of our nation's most basic and critical issues, including: <br />environmental protection; indigent health care; special <br />assistance for the elderly; job training; child welfare; and <br />drug/alcohol abuse; and <br />WHEREAS, county government has assumed increasing <br />responsibility for the administration and financing of health, <br />justice, public education, youth counselling, recreation, <br />social services, and has encouraged and funded economic <br />development and cultural and educational enrichment through <br />public libraries; and <br />WHEREAS, serving as an elected or appointed county <br />official today requires dedication, hard work and a strong <br />sense of purpose. The mission of Lee County government is to <br />meet the needs of our citizens without placing an undue burden <br />on local taxpayers and to find solutions that are of benefit to <br />all of us. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lee County Board <br />of Commissioners does hereby proclaim the week of April 7 - 13, <br />1991, as "National County Government Week" and urges all <br />citizens to be more involved in and aware of issues affecting <br />county government. <br />Commissioner Matthews seconded the motion, and upon a <br />vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford, and <br />Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the proclamation has been adopted <br />unanimously. <br />The Chairman recognized Mr. Eugene Hines, Director of Lee <br />County Public Health Department, who informed the Board that <br />the week of April 15 - 19, 1991, will be observed as Public <br />Health Week in North Carolina. Commissioner Matthews moved to <br />adopt the following proclamation: <br />WHEREAS, Governor James Martin has proclaimed the week of <br />April 15 - 19, 1991, as Public Health Week in North Carolina; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the public health facilities in Lee County serve <br />thousands of our citizens each year; and <br />WHEREAS, public health assures a cleaner, safer, more <br />wholesome environment in which to live; and <br />WHEREAS, healthful living is the major prevention of the <br />2 <br />
