BOOK A22 P„Gt '1109 <br />State ofNorth Carolina <br />County of Lee <br />Public Record Requests: <br />Policy and Procedures <br />In General <br />Lee County is fully eommitted to satisfying both the letter and spirit of the <br />North Carolina Public Records law, N.C.G.S. § 132-1 et.seg. The purpose of these <br />policies and procedures is to ensure the equal, fair, and consistent treatment of all <br />citizens who request public records maintained by Lee County. <br />The policies and procedures discussed herein are not meant to supplant or <br />supplement the Public Records Law. Any inconsistencies between the policies <br />discussed herein and the Public Records Law shall always be resolved in favor of the <br />Public Records Law. Questions regarding the Public Records Law or these policies <br />and procedures should be referred to the County Attorney's Office. <br />2. Request for Public Records <br />a. Requests for public records may be made by any person, corporation, or <br />public entity. <br />b. Persons requesting public records may not be required to state the purpose <br />for which they are requesting the record. <br />c. All requests for public records shall be made in writing to ensure the <br />County accurately produces the requested documents(s) in a timely and <br />efficient manner (writing may include electronic or e-mail requests). <br />d. If the request for documents is made to a department that is not the <br />custodian of the document, the request shall be referred to the department <br />that is the custodian of the documents within five working days of the <br />request. The requestor shall be notified that the request has been referred <br />to another department. <br />e_ Persons requesting public records shall provide the following information <br />in writing (requesters may, but are not obligated, to use the attached <br />form): <br />i. The name, address, and phone number of the requesting party. <br />(Attorneys may request public records without disclosing the name <br />of the client who is requesting the document). <br />
