BOOK 22 PAGE 704 <br />LEE COUNTY <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />LEE COUNTY <br />COMMUNICATIONS POLICY <br />It is recognized by the Lee County Board of Commissioners that it is sound public policy to openly <br />communicate the business of county government with the media and general public. The Board <br />of Commissioners believes that all information released should be accurate and complete. <br />Therefore, the Board Chairman is recognized as the official spokesperson for the Lee County <br />Board of Commissioners as the issue relates to an official position taken by the Board of <br />Commissioners or in situations where a state of emergency exists. All Commissioners may speak <br />on their own individual position with the media and general public. The County Manager is <br />recognized as the official spokesperson for Lee County Government Administration. <br />The County Manager may designate a press liaison to provide information to the news media. <br />Purpose <br />The purpose of this Communications Policy is to provide staff guidance in producing and <br />disseminating information and is designed to ensure that: <br />• accurate information is released in a timely and professional manner, <br />• information released is shared with appropriate staff to ensure consistency in <br />delivery to the public; <br />• information is presented in a manner that is consistent with policies and procedures; <br />and <br />• information is released in an equitable and comprehensive manner. <br />II. Scope <br />This policy applies to all departments within County Government and is designed to ensure <br />that information produced for both internal and external consumption is done so in a <br />professional and appropriate manner and the information is shared with all appropriate staff. <br />III. General Policy <br />Lee County recognizes that a number of individuals may interact with the media and <br />produce various types of public information since there isn't a formal Public Information <br />Officer appointed for the County. <br />The Policy addresses primarily two modes of communications: <br />1) Internal communications - Internal communications addresses the flow of <br />information within the organization. <br />2) External communications - External communications address the flow of information <br />to the public. <br />Within internal and external communications, there are two types: <br />
