2010 - <br />u <br />s <br />RESOLUTION BY THE LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS REQUESTING AN <br />EXTENSION OF THE DEER HUNTING SEASON <br />FROM THE NORTH CAROLINA WILDLIFE RESOURCES COMMISSION <br />WHEREAS, with the deer populations growing in urban and rural areas of North <br />Carolina, and the number of motor vehicle accidents involving deer is on the rise; and <br />WHEREAS, citizens have requested an Extended Deer Hunting Season due to the <br />damage to their gardens and ornamental plants, flowers and shrubs in residential areas caused <br />by proliferation of deer; and <br />WHEREAS, by local act of the legislature, it is unlawful to hunt in Lee County with any <br />weapon while on the land of another, without written permission dated within one year carried <br />on the person of the hunter; and <br />WHEREAS, by local act of the legislature, it is also unlawful to hunt in Lee County with <br />any weapon, any wild animal or bird, or discharge a firearm on, from or across the right -of -way <br />of any public road; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Lee County Board of County <br />Commissioners that: <br />1. The Lee County Board of County Commissioners requests that Lee County be <br />moved from Central Deer Season to the Eastern Deer Season for the purposes <br />of extending the deer hunting season by roughly 4 weeks. <br />2. That this change in zones be effective beginning January 2011 in accordance <br />with state laws provided approval is received from the State of North Carolina. <br />3. Only hunting on private property is allowed. Hunters must have written <br />permission in their possession dated within one year from landowners to hunt on <br />their property or must own the property themselves. <br />4. All laws, rules and regulations that currently pertain to hunting deer in Lee <br />County continue to be in force even with the change in Deer Seasons. This <br />includes the continuation of the ban on deer hunting with dogs in the County. <br />5. No hunting will be allowed on county property without the written approval of the <br />entire Lee County Board of County Commissioners. <br />6. The County Clerk is directed to forward copies of this resolution to the Executive <br />Director of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, Senator Robert <br />Atwater, Representative Jimmy Love, the Sanford City Council, and the Town <br />Council of Broadway. <br />Adopted this 1 st day of March 2010. <br />AST: <br />ll .Lee, Clerk <br />Richard B.
