Gfi2 <br />LEE COUNTY <br />X 004 — a ©0;• aonc� <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />PUBLIC HEARING <br />OF THE <br />LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />106 HILLCREST DRIVE <br />SANFORD, NORTH CAROLINA 27330 <br />JUNE 15, 2011 <br />The public hearing to hear comments in reference to a p4posal to establish two fire protection, <br />ambulance and rescue service districts within the existing Cape�Fear `2ural Fire Protection District was <br />held at 6 p.m. in the Gordon Wicker Conference Room, Lee County vo ernment Center, First Floor, <br />106 Hillcrest Drive, Sanford, North Carolina, on said date. Commissioners present were Richard B. <br />Hayes, Larry "Doc" Oldham, Charles T. Parks, Nathan E. \ Paschal, and Linda A. Shook. <br />Commissioners Robert T. Reives and James K. Womack, Jr. were absentStaff in attendance included <br />County Manager John Crumpton, County Attorney K. R. Hoyle, and Clerk to the Board Gaynell M. Lee. <br />Chairman Shook called the meeting to <br />Mr. Donald Andrews, Chairman of the Lee\ <br />in the Cape Fear Fire District are currently unrat , <br />having to pay extremely high costs. The City o <br />residents in the Clearwater Drive area at a rate of 1 <br />Cape Fear District are paying'8'6 per $100 ar <br />into two separate districts C I 1 <br />the purpose of the public hearing. <br />i6nty Fire Advisory Board stated that some areas <br />preventing citizens from having fire insurance or <br />Sanford has agreed to provide fire protection to <br />B cents per $100 value. Currently residents in the <br />that will increase to 8.7 cents if the area is divided <br />Chairman Shook opened "the public °hearing that had been advertised for this date and time. <br />The following spoke in favor of the two service districts: <br />John Hall! 1515 Clearwater Drive, (spoke on behalf of residents <br />in the' Clearwater Drive area), <br />Ricky Taylor, 87 Wilmer Road (President of the Cape <br />Fear Fire Department), and <br />Glenn Edwards, 915 Openview Drive (discussed how his insurance <br />rates have doubled over the past several years) <br />Lee County Fire Marshal Shane Seagroves stated it could take approximately six - months, if the <br />plan is approved by Commissioners, before residents will see a change in their fire rating. This is due <br />to everything going through the State Fire Marshal's Office for approval and verification. <br />Chairman Shook closed the public hearing. <br />Commissioner Parks moved to adjourn the meeting. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />
