Fiscal Year 2008-09 Budget <br />DEPARTMENT: Administration/Finance <br />CONTACT PERSON: John Crumpton/Lisa Minter <br />REQUEST: Accept County Manager's/Budget Officer's Recommended FY 2008-09 <br />Budget. <br />SUMMARY: NC General Statute 159-7 requires the County Manager/Budget Officer on <br />an annual basis to deliver a balanced budget to the County Commissioners for their review. The <br />annual budget is the proposed plan for collecting and spending money for specified programs, <br />functions, activities, or objectives for the upcoming fiscal year. The Board of County Commissioners <br />reviews the budget and enacts it into law by adopting the annual budget ordinance. The Budget <br />Calendar has the budget adoption scheduled for June 2, 2008. <br />BUDGET IMPACT: Recommended budget is balanced using the existing .75 cents per $100 <br />of property valuation tax rate, per the instructions of the Commissioners. <br />ATTACHMENT(S): Budget documents will be delivered to Commissioners on May 2 or May 3. <br />PUBLIC HEARING: County Commissioners need to formally set a public hearing date and <br />time. The Budget Calendar scheduled the public hearing for May 19 at 7:00 pm. <br />PRIOR BOARD ACTION: NA <br />RECOMMENDATION: Accept County Manager's Recommended FY 2008-09 Budget. Set public <br />hearing on Recommended Budget. Consider scheduling budget workshops to review budget in detail <br />(Budget Calendar calls for a workshop on Monday May 12, time to be determined). <br />
