0197
EE COUNTY
Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow
LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ITEM ABSTRACT ITEM NO. V. C.
Information
Meeting Date: May 5, 2008 XX Action Item
Consent Agenda
SUBJECT: San-Lee Park Dam Modification Project
DEPARTMENT: Administration
CONTACT PERSON: John Crumpton, County Manager
REQUEST: Consider an engineering proposal from McKim & Creed, P.A. for the
San-Lee Park Dam Modification Project.
SUMMARY: San-Lee Park has a drainage basin of approximately 2,200 acres
that drains into an upper and lower reservoir. The lower reservoir consists of a 30' high earth
embankment dam with a 3' high parapet wall and concrete spillway. This dam is classified as a
Class C, high-hazard, small dam with NCDENR, Division of Land Resources, Land Quality
Section. In 2006, we received a Notice of Deficiency from Dam Safety for having insufficient
capacity to pass the required storm event for high-hazard dams and the principal spillway was
noted as being severely deteriorated. We have been directed by Dam Safety to retain the
services of an experienced engineering firm to modify the existing dam and outlet structure. The
FY 2008-2012 Capital Improvements Program included a request totaling $104,416 for planning
and design modifications.
BUDGET IMPACT: $99,957.00
ATTACHMENT(S): (1) McKim & Creed, P.A. Proposal
(2) McKim & Creed, P.A. General Conditions
PUBLIC HEARING: No
PRIOR BOARD ACTION: In 2004, approved an Application for Project Assistance and Project
Agreement with Environmental Impact (RC&D), Inc. to pursue a grant for engineering technical
analysis and design.
RECOMMENDATION:
