E COUNTY oI <br />t t+ . `2 ,~i ~r.P~rXass:-zs'~ a .a.,+xts s 5c ai <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />PROCLAMATION <br />LEE COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH MONTH <br />APRIL 2008 <br />WHEREAS, we hereby recognize and acknowledge 60 years of public health service to the residents of Lee <br />County. North Carolina, and the immeasurable contribution of these services to the quality of life in our County, and <br />WHEREAS, the benefits of public health exist everywhere, everyday, and for everybody, regardless of <br />religious, ethnic or socioeconomic condition; and <br />WHEREAS, only public health has the unique responsibility and expertise necessary to ensure that <br />communities in Lee County are healthy places in which to live, work and play, and <br />WHEREAS, public health measures to control and eliminate infectious diseases, improve environmental <br />sanitation, and promote healthy lifestyle practices have been the greatest cause of improved health status and <br />increased life expectancy for Lee County residents, and <br />WHEREAS, the role of autonomous, local boards of health remains critical to the development and <br />implementation of sound public health policy and protection of-the public health interests of our communities, and <br />WHEREAS, the public health legacy of health promotion and disease prevention must be fully and adequately <br />maintained throughout the 21 st century in order to realize the human and financial benefits possible with the public <br />health approach, and <br />WHEREAS, the public health commitment to increase the span of healthy life for the residents of Lce County, <br />North Carolina, eliminate health disparities, and promote access to preventative health services, has been advanced <br />by the many contributions of public health. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, We, the Lee County Board of Health and the Lee County Board of Commissioners do <br />hereby proclaim April 2008 as "PUBLIC HEALTH MONTH" in Lee County, North Carolina, and urge our <br />citizens to recognize that public health is working everywhere, everyday and for everybody, and to participate in <br />events celebrating this important occasion. <br />Adopted this " day of March 2008. <br />Attest: <br />R.
