John Crumpton, Lisa Minter
REQUEST: Consider Resolutions for the''/4 Cent Sales Tax Levy
SUMMARY: Since September, the Finance Committee and Board of
Commissioners have been reviewing the 2007 Y4-cent Sales Tax Levy which was authorized by
the General Assembly. The two resolutions which are attached set the date of the referendum
and the intended uses of the new revenue.
BUDGET IMPACT: $1.5 million in new revenue on an annual basis.
ATTACHMENT(S): 1) Resolution asking the Board of Elections to hold a Referendum
on the''/4-cent Sales Tax during the May 6'n, 2008 Primary Elections.
2) Resolution stating the Commissioners intent on uses for the
revenue received from the new Sales Tax.
PUBLIC HEARING: A Public Hearing is not needed. However, the Board has solicited
comments on the'/4-cent sales tax and land transfer tax options from the public at the January 21,
2008 and February 4, 2008 Commissioner's meetings.
PRIOR BOARD ACTION: The Board previously passed a motion which would have put both
the'/4-cents sales tax and land transfer tax options on the May 6ht ballot.
