M' <br />e,oo 13 i'Arr 858 <br />LA <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Worth Pickard would preserve the steel bridge, <br />Bridge Number 155, as a historic site which would be located on <br />property adjacent to the Old Gilliam Mill, which he owns and <br />maintains as a historic site open to the public; and <br />WHEREAS, Bridge Number 155 would remain in place and in view of <br />the public; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lee County Board of <br />Commissioners does hereby support Mr. Worth Pickard's application for <br />acquisition of Bridge Number 155. <br />Commissioner Cox moved to adopt the resolution. Commissioner <br />Hall seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as <br />follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford, and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a request from the Lee County Board of <br />Elections. County Manager William K. Cowan reported that the Board <br />of Elections opposes Senate Bill 250, which would require County <br />offices to register voters. The Board of Elections expressed <br />opposition to the bill, because of limited funds and personnel to <br />implement this law. <br />Commissioner Matthews moved to support the Board of Elections' <br />opposition to Senate Bill 250. Commissioner Paschal seconded the <br />motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford, and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board of Commissioners reviewed informally the list of <br />appointments to the Boards and Commissions whose terms expire June <br />20, 1991. The Board agreed to consider these apointments at the next <br />meeting. <br />Commissioner Reives reported that a recommendation for the Youtl <br />Services Program will be presented at the July 8, 1991, meeting. HF <br />reported that the Community Based Alternatives <CBA> Task Force, <br />which is an extension of the Youth Commission, needs to be <br />re-evaluated to include appropriate local goverment personnel, such <br />as representatives from the Department of Social Services, <br />Lee-Harnett Mental Health Department, Health Department, Sheriff's <br />Department, Sanford Police Department, to be eligible for CBA grants. <br />The County Manager distributed copies of the Budget Ordinance <br />for Fiscal Year 1991-1992 which reflect all the changes as directed <br />2 <br />
