M <br />BouK 13 ptrE 973 <br />The chairman recognized Mr. Don McLaughlin, Director of the <br />Parks and Recreation Department. Mr. McLaughlin and Mr. Andre <br />Horton, Vice Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission, <br />recognized the following persons and organizations as recipients of <br />the Commission's annual voluntary service awards for 1991: <br />Corporate Donor of the Year: Cherokee Sanford Group, Inc.; <br />accepting Ms. Miriam Sims and Mr. Jim Parrish <br />Sports Sponsor of the Year: Summit Savings Bank; accepting, <br />Mr. Harold Ausley <br />Non-Sports Sponsor of the Year: Ms. Carol Rothstein <br />Sports Volunteer of the Year: Mr. Warren Clark <br />Non-sports volunteer of the Year: Ms. Barbara Sellers <br />Civic Club of the Year: Tie between the Rotary Club of Sanford <br />and the Sanford Jaycees; accepting for the Rotary Club, Mr. Dick <br />Poletti, and accepting for the Jaycees, Andy Childress <br />Distinguished Citizen of the Year: Mr. Hubert Garner; accepting <br />Mr. Fred Garner <br />The Board then considered the following resolution as presented <br />by Board of Education Chairman Eddie Winstead: <br />WHEREAS, the Lee County Board of Education is of the opinion <br />that existing school facilities in the Lee County School <br />Administration Unit are not adequate for the maintenance of public <br />schools in the Administrative Unit for the term prescribed by law; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Lee County Board of Education, as follows: <br />Section 1. The Lee County Board of Education has ascertained <br />and hereby determines that it is necessary to improve the school <br />facilities in the Lee County Administrative Unit, including the <br />construction of new elementary schools, the construction of additions <br />to elementary school buildings, the acquisition of necessary land or <br />rights-in-land and the acquisition and installation of furnishings <br />and equipment necessary to expend for such purpose, from proceeds of <br />general obligation bonds and apart from other moneys which may be <br />available therefore, not less than $15,000,000. <br />Section 2. The Board of Commissioners of Lee County is hereby <br />requested to provide the funds required for the improvements <br />hereinbefore set forth and to issue bonds of said County to raise the <br />required funds and to submit the question of issuing bonds to <br />accomplish such financing to the voters of Lee County. <br />Section 3.
