b K D pr,(,E 980 The Board considered setting a public hearing for the Carthage Street and Minter School Road water line extension petitions. Commissioner Cox moved to schedule a public hearing on September 16, 1991, at 7:00 P.M., or as soon thereafter as the Board deems necessary, for the Carthage Street and Minter School Road water line extension requests. Commissioner Matthews seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: Aye: Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford, and Wicker Nay' None The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. County Manager Cowan stated that Cabarrus County is appealing the Property Tax Commission's ruling on a case in which Philip Morris had appealed the discovery of a substantial amount of business personal property made by Cabarrus County through the assistance of a tax consultant. Other county officials across the State are concerned with the potentially adverse effect of the Commission's decision. The North Carolina Association of County Commissioners has decided to endorse Cabarrus County's request for support on its appeal by soliciting counties statewide to contribute funds to assist in the cost of the appeal. Commissioner Matthews moved to contribute $621.00, as recommended by the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners, to assist in Cabarrus County's appeal. Chairman Stafford seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: Aye= Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Stafford Nay: Wicker vote. The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a six to one Commissioner Matthews moved to authorize the County Attorney to draft a resolution honoring the memory of Mr. J. D. McDuffie. Commissioner Paschal seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: Aye: Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford, and Wicker Nay: None The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. Commissioner Paschal noted that September 28, 1991, has been proclaimed as National Hunting and Fishing Day. Commissioner Paschal moved that the Lee County Board of Commissioners honor September 28, 1991, as National Hunting and Fishing Day in Lee County. Commissioner Matthews seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: Aye: Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford, and Wicker Nay: None 12
