b K D pr,(,E 980 <br />The Board considered setting a public hearing for the Carthage <br />Street and Minter School Road water line extension petitions. <br />Commissioner Cox moved to schedule a public hearing on September 16, <br />1991, at 7:00 P.M., or as soon thereafter as the Board deems <br />necessary, for the Carthage Street and Minter School Road water line <br />extension requests. Commissioner Matthews seconded the motion, and <br />upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford, and Wicker <br />Nay' None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />County Manager Cowan stated that Cabarrus County is appealing <br />the Property Tax Commission's ruling on a case in which Philip Morris <br />had appealed the discovery of a substantial amount of business <br />personal property made by Cabarrus County through the assistance of a <br />tax consultant. Other county officials across the State are <br />concerned with the potentially adverse effect of the Commission's <br />decision. The North Carolina Association of County Commissioners has <br />decided to endorse Cabarrus County's request for support on its <br />appeal by soliciting counties statewide to contribute funds to assist <br />in the cost of the appeal. Commissioner Matthews moved to contribute <br />$621.00, as recommended by the North Carolina Association of County <br />Commissioners, to assist in Cabarrus County's appeal. Chairman <br />Stafford seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as <br />follows: <br />Aye= Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Stafford <br />Nay: Wicker <br />vote. <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a six to one <br />Commissioner Matthews moved to authorize the County Attorney to <br />draft a resolution honoring the memory of Mr. J. D. McDuffie. <br />Commissioner Paschal seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the <br />results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford, and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Commissioner Paschal noted that September 28, 1991, has been <br />proclaimed as National Hunting and Fishing Day. Commissioner Paschal <br />moved that the Lee County Board of Commissioners honor September 28, <br />1991, as National Hunting and Fishing Day in Lee County. <br />Commissioner Matthews seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the <br />results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford, and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />12 <br />
