"fib <br />The motion having been duly seconded by Commissioner Reives and <br />the resolution having been considered, it was adopted by the <br />following vote: <br />Aye: Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford, and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Board considered a request from the North Carolina <br />Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) for funds in the amount <br />of $1,178 to assist in writing and publishing a textbook for the <br />public school curriculum concerning local government. Commissioner <br />Paschal moved to appropriate $1,178 to the NCACC for the textbooks. <br />Commissioner Matthews seconded the motion. Following a discussion, <br />Chairman Stafford stated that he would contact the NCACC to see if <br />the NC Department of Public Instruction endorses the publication, and <br />if the Department would guarantee the textbook's use in the public <br />school curriculum. Commissioner Hall then moved to table the <br />decision in order to contact the NCACC about the Board's concerns. <br />Commissioner Wicker seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results <br />were as follows: <br />Aye: Hall, Matthews, Paschal, and Wicker <br />Nay: Cox, Reives, and Stafford <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a four to <br />three vote. <br />Commissioner Matthews nominated Ms. Shelia Beeker from East Lee <br />Junior High School and Ms. Valencia Burford, a senior at Lee Senior <br />High School, to serve on the Youth Commission.
