H <br />Rp!1~( ~ ~ arT <br />populations; <br />NO <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS DOES <br />HEREBY PROCLAIM October 7 - 11, 1991, as Community Health Center <br />Week, and urge everyone to recognize the critical services provided <br />by local community health centers' staff and volunteers and by their <br />thousands of colleagues throughout the country. <br />Commissioner Paschal seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the <br />results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford, and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Commissioner Cox moved to adopt the following proclamation: <br />WHEREAS, Systemic Lupus Erythemotosus affects one in every two <br />thousand Americans, and over 15,000 new cases are diagnosed each <br />year; and <br />WHEREAS, Lupus is more common than Leukemia, Muscular Dystrophy <br />and Cerebral Palsy; that it affects both men and women, young and <br />old; and <br />WHEREAS, Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease which causes <br />the body's immune system to produce antibodies which attacks healthy <br />tissue and organs; and <br />WHEREAS, the cause of Lupus is unknown and no cure exists; and <br />WHEREAS, research and Public Education are two vital keys to <br />address this "orphan disease". That through education, early <br />diagnosis is possible and will lead to reduced mortality rates. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Lee County Board of <br />Commissioners to proclaim October as Lupus Awareness Month in Lee <br />County. <br />Commissioner Paschal seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the <br />results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford, and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Chairman Stafford stated that he received a letter- from Grace <br />Christian School Principal Stephen Coble, requesting that a traffic <br />signal be installed at the school's entrance. Commissioner Hall <br />moved to contact the North Carolina Highway commission requesting the <br />Commission to investigate the feasibility of installing a traffic <br />10 <br />
