6m 14 ~rcf 137 <br />Aye: Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford, and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board then discussed the public hearing scheduled for <br />November 19th by the North Carolina Department of Transportation <br />(NCDOT) for environmental impact statements on extending the four <br />lanes on US Highway 1 in Lee and Moore Counties. After a lengthy <br />discussion, it was the general consensus of the Board to oppose <br />Alternative B proposed by the NCDOT for this project. The Board <br />asked the Chairman also to convey at the public hearing its strong <br />desire for the NCDOT to consider bypassing Sanford on NC Highway 421 <br />in the near future. <br />Commissioner Hall moved to recess the meeting for dinner and to <br />reconvene at 7:00 o'clock P.M. for the scheduled public hearing. <br />Commissioner Wicker seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results <br />were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford, and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Upon reconvening at 7:00 o'clock P.M., Commissioner Hall moved <br />to open the public hearing. Commissioner wicker seconded the motion, <br />and upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford, and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Chairman invited the Planning Board members to join the <br />Commissioners for a joint public hearing. Mr. Leonard Barefoot, <br />Planning Director, presented the petition submitted by G. Duke Harton <br />to rezone 2.85 acres of land located at 1510 Post office Road, <br />beginning at a point approximately 680 feet east of the intersection <br />of Post Office Road and Colon Road from Residential Agricultural <br />District to Highway Commercial Conditional Use District. The <br />petitioner proposes to locate a welding shop on the property. <br />Mr. Duke Harton, the petitioner, spoke in favor of the request. <br />He stated that he owns the four houses adjoining the property in <br />question. He stated that he proposes to operate a small welding <br />business. <br />After all persons wishing to speak for or against the petition <br />had been heard, Commissioner Hall moved to close the public hearing. <br />Commissioner Cox seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results <br />were as follows: <br />2 <br />
