0 P;,,4, 1.1 259
b. Medical problems which arise or occur outside of
the normal 9 to 5, Monday through Friday, office hours
observed by,SFP and which require immediate attention will be
handled by the custodial personnel from jail carrying the
inmate to the emergency room at Central Carolina Hospital.
If the nature of the inmate's medical problem persists,
inquiry will be made to ascertain if medical personnel from
SFP are available to treat the inmate. If so, SFP would
provide the medical services required by the inmate and if
not, the medical staff at the emergency room would treat the
inmate. In either event, any necessary follow-up care would
be referred to SFP.
C. Medical problems which arise or occur during the
office hours observed by SFP will be handled by consultation
by telephone or by having the custodial personnel carry the
inmate to SFP's office for observation, examination and
treatment. When the nature of the inmate's medical problem
is so serious that it warrants carrying the inmate to the
emergency room at Central Carolina Hospital, then the
procedure set out in sub-paragraph (b), supra, will be
followed.
d. Advise the custodial staff at the jail to the
proper use and storage of medication prescribed for inmates.
Also to advise the custodial staff as to the needs for and
proper use of, non-prescription medications which should be
maintained at the jail.
e. In the observation, examination, treatment and care
of the inmates, SFP will observe the same standard of care
that is observed by physicians in their community in treating
private patients with the same or similar medical problems.
