The Planning Board in its <br />deliberation cited the fact that Mr. Riddle currently operates a <br />welding shop across the road from the proposed location and that <br />moving the shop across the road should not adversely affect the <br />neighborhood. Commissioner Matthews moved to adopt the Planning <br />Board's recommendation to approve the request. Commissioner Paschal <br />seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford, and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Ms. Leisa Powell, County Planner, reviewed with the Board a <br />request from the Environmental Affairs Board to seek funding to study <br />the possible affect the proposed low level radioactive waste site in <br />Chatham County will pose to Lee County's water supply and the <br />potential hazards posed by the transportation of the waste via <br />highways which traverse Lee County. The Environmental Affairs Board <br />recommended that Mr. George Bain, the geologist who is working with <br />Chatham County, investigate the type of studies needed and the <br />estimated cost of these studies. Ms. Powell informed the Board that <br />Chatham County received a $100,000 grant to complete similar studies. <br />Commissioner Matthews moved to adopt the Environmental Affairs <br />Board's recommendations as presented and that the studies emphasize <br />the potential damaging affects the facility will pose on Lee County. <br />Commissioner Cox seconded the motion, and upon a vote the results <br />were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford, and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Ms. Powell presented a request from the Environmental Affairs <br />Board that the Mecklenburg County Manager be contacted to discuss <br />Mecklenburg County's use of ethanol products for its fleet of county <br />vehicles to better determine the feasibility of Lee County making a <br />similar effort to use ethanol products at its future fueling <br />facility.
