Box 3729
Sanford, NC 27331
Re: National Flood Insurance Program Community Assistance Visit (CAV) for the City of Sanford
on September 14, 2010
Dear Mayor Olive:
This letter is a follow -up to the Community Assistance Visit (CAV) conducted at the City of Sanford
Planning and Development Department office on September 14, 2010, by Mr. Stephen Garrett, of the
North Carolina Division of Emergency Management (NCEM). In attendance were Mr. Marshall
Downey, AICP, Assistant Planning Director, Sanford /Lee County; Ms. Amy J. McNeill, Planner II,
Sanford /Lee County; Ms. Nancy Veroni, Emergency Management Coordinator, Lee County; Mr.
Roger Millikin, Emergency Services Support, Lee County; and ' Mr. Steve Powers, Area 8
Coordinator, North Carolina Division of Emergency Management. Mr. Downey and Ms. McNeill
were very helpful throughout the CAV process in answering questions, researching information,
obtaining copies of required National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) records, and in making
themselves available to assist during the field work conducted immediately following this visit. We
also appreciate participation in CAV meeting by Ms. Veroni and Mr. Millikin, and their interest in
floodplain management within Lee County communities.
In order to participate in the NFIP, your community has been required to establish, administer, and
enforce a floodplain management program that meets or exceeds the minimum standards established by
the NFIP as set forth in Title 44, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Section 60.3. Though
participation in the NFIP is voluntary for communities meeting NFIP standards, that participation
allows local citizens to obtain affordable flood insurance through the NFIP as well as receive most
other state and federal disaster assistance. The primary objective of the NFIP and those communities
that participate in the program is to reduce the loss of lives and property damage caused by floods.
Mail:
4719 Mail Service Center
Raleigh, NC 27699 -4719
Telephone: 919- 715 -5711
id
credrded
r..
Location:
1812 Tillery Place, Suite 105
Raleigh, NC 27604
Fax: 919-715-0408
is ivvuNCCrimeConnol. of
An F.gnal Opporhmily /Affirmative Action Employer
A Nationally Acn edited Agency
