BOOK ?A~~ 0"d, <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously, and <br />the Board was in executive session. Following the Board's discussion <br />in executive session, Commissioner Matthews moved the executive <br />session be closed. Commissioner Cox seconded the motion, and upon a <br />vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Mr. John Crumpton, Finance Director, gave a report to the Board <br />on responses received for proposals for Solid Waste Disposal in Lee <br />County. The five companies who submitted responses are as follows: <br />Cherokee of Sanford, Business Programs, Inc., Addington <br />Environmental, Inc., ARS-Waste Management and Browning-Ferris <br />Industries. After some discussion the Board decided to work on <br />proposals as a committee of the whole and to discuss them again at a <br />future meeting after each Commissioner had had a chance to review the <br />individual proposals. <br />Mr. William Cowan, County Manager, announced to the Board that <br />Commissioner Gordon Wicker would be honored for twenty years of <br />service as a Commissioner at the annual North Carolina Association of <br />County Commissioners meeting in Charlotte on August 13-16, 1992. <br />The County will also be recognized at that time for taking part in <br />the "Outstanding County Program Awards" competition. The County won <br />an award for an article written by Mr. Don McLaughlin, Director of <br />Parks and Recreation in the General Government Category entitled <br />"Gateway to Greenways". <br />Commissioner Wicker expressed to the Board his concern that none <br />of the presidential candidates for President of the United States <br />attended or responded to the invitations or material sent to them by <br />the president of the National Association of County Officials (NACO) <br />asking them to attend the recent convention in Minneapolis, <br />Minnesota. After some discussion Commissioner Wicker made a motion <br />for the Board to write a letter to each one of the candidates and let <br />them know they did not appreciate the attitude they took toward the <br />national convention. Chairman Stafford seconded the motion and upon <br />a vote the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Matthews, Paschal and Wicker <br />Nay: Cox, Hall, Reives and Stafford <br />The Chairman ruled the motion failed with a four to three vote. <br />Chairman Stafford advised the Board he would write a letter on <br />behalf of the Board of Commissioners to the presidential candidates <br />Go <br />8 <br />
