607
departments in Lee County is more than offset with the potential insurance savings
realized by the homeowners and 'businesses. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the
• citizens have no idea what it takes or the cost in providing emergency services. As has
been stressed over and over, we are very fortunate in this county to have some 300
individuals who are willing to volunteer their time to serve their communities. The
amount of time dedicated to training and preparation continues to increase year after year.
Yet, these volunteers give their nights and weekends to meet these requirements in order
to respond when called upon. With the projected population growth in Lee County, which
in turn will result in a growth of property, the volunteer fire departments will continue to
be faced with the challenges of having the equipment and manpower to be able to meet
the every growing demand. The citizens of Lee County are fortunate that the volunteer
fire departments work closely with one another and the Fire Marshals Office to continue
to improve the level of fire protection provided.
The Lee County Fire Advisory Board fully understands the need to fiord the fire service
while at the same time minimizing burden to community. After reviewing the budgets,
meeting with the departments, and engaging in lengthy discussions, we were unanimous
in these recommendations. The Lee County Fire Advisory Board unanimously voted to
recommend the approval and funding of the budget request for fiscal year 2011/2012 as
presented in the accompanying documents.
Respectfully submitted,
• Lee County Fire Advisory Board
c: Shane Seagroves, Lee County Emergency Services
John Crumpton, County of Lee County
Attached: FYI 1/12 Department Budgets Data
•
