0 ® 10 <br />BUO'j '1 I rr,': , Q~~ <br />MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING <br />OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR <br />THE COUNTY OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday, August 24, 1992 <br /> <br />The adjourned regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for <br />the County of Lee, State of North Carolina, convened in the <br />conference room on the second floor of the Lee County Office <br />Building, 200 Wicker Street, Sanford, North Carolina, the same being <br />the time, date, and place as specified in the motion of adjournment. <br />Those present were Commissioners Albert L. Cox, Bobby R. Hall, Bertha <br />L. Matthews, Nathan E. Paschal, Robert T. Reives, William C. <br />J Stafford, Jr., and Gordon A. Wicker. Also present were Mrs. Ruth <br />Gurtis, Mrs. Ellen Tynor, Mrs. Eugenia Thompson, Mrs. Joan Wagoner, <br />Mr. James Womack, Mr. John Gaines, and Mr. Phillip Yarborough, III, <br />being all of the members of the Lee County Board of Education. <br />On behalf of the Board of Commissioners, Chairman William C. <br />Stafford, Jr., declared a quorum present and the meeting open for the <br />transaction of business. <br />Chairman William C. Stafford, Jr., presided and the following <br />business was transacted: <br />The invocation was given by Chairman William C. Stafford, Jr. <br />Chairman Stafford recognized and introduced to those present Mr. <br />John Crumpton, the County Finance Officer. Chairman Stafford then <br />recognized Mr. John R. Dossenbach, Jr., and Mr. Hubert F. Garner who <br />are unopposed candidates for the Board of Commissioners in the <br />general election to be held in November of 1992. <br />Chairman Stafford made introductory remarks which emphasized <br />that the Board of Commissioners wanted to do what they can afford to <br />do in the field of education. <br />Chairman Stafford identified Commissioner Robert T. Reives as <br />Chairman of the Finance Committee, and to initiate discussion among <br />the group Chairman Stafford proposed the question to the Board of <br />Education as to what plans they had to use the $700,000 that was <br />included in the school budget. Chairperson Ruth Gurtis replied on <br />behalf of the Board of Education and stated that repair of roofs was <br />their first priority, but that the Board of Education had not held a <br />workshop on the the capital outlay projects, and therefore, she could <br />
