CONTI, JR. <br />Secretary <br />Spring 2011 Litter Sweep Roadside Cleanup <br />April 16th - April 30th <br />Dear Adopt -A- Highway Volunteer: <br />Litter Sweep is the North Carolina Department of Transportation biannual statewide roadside litter cleanup <br />event. Your participation is the central force in the success of the statewide cleanup, and we encourage you to <br />schedule a cleanup between April 16th -April 30th. <br />To highlight the significance of the cleanup and a clean environment, Governor Perdue has issued a <br />proclamation naming April l6th - April 30th, Litter Sweep time in North Carolina. Partnering with AAH <br />volunteers in the cleanup will be NCDOT crews, local governments, churches, civic organizations, schools, <br />businesses, concerned citizens, Department of Correction inmates and Community Service Work crews. <br />Working together we can reach our goal of clean and beautiful communities. <br />The following Litter Sweep materials are available at www.nedot.�, /—littersween for your use in promoting <br />the cleanup: <br />• Governor Perdue's Litter Sweep Proclamation. <br />• Litter Sweep poster and listing of NCDOT telephone numbers. <br />• Certificate of Appreciation form. All volunteers may receive a certificate for participating in the <br />cleanup. <br />• KNCB Unusual Litter Contest form. Cash prizes will be awarded for the most unusual litter found. <br />• Safety Rules and Hazardous Materials Safety Alert. <br />• Adopt -A- Highway Litter Sweep Media Form. <br />• To request copies call 1- 800 -331 -5864. <br />Cleanup supplies may be picked up from your local NCDOT county maintenance office. Orange safety vests, <br />orange trash bags, blue recycling bags, gloves and safety caution signs will be available.
