t 6 <br />1$ ~1,u 535 <br />P R O C L A M A T I O N <br />WHEREAS, the week of October 24 - November 1, 1992, has been <br />proclaimed as National Red Ribbon Week, and <br />WHEREAS, the problems associated with the use and abuse of both <br />legal and illicit drugs are increasingly prevalent in our society, <br />and <br />WHEREAS, all ages and socio-economic levels are affected by <br />these problems, and <br />WHEREAS, Lee County citizens are not immune to the impact of the <br />ills of drug abuse, and <br />WHEREAS, all elements of our community must become actively <br />involved in working to minimize the negative influence of drug abuse <br />if we are to attain the desired quality of life in Lee County, and <br />THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lee County Board of <br />Commissioners declare the week of October 24 - November 1, 1992, as <br />National Drug Awareness Week, and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all persons, families, businesses, <br />organizations, and agencies are encouraged to become more <br />knowledgeable about the problems associated with drug abuse, and to <br />join the fight to solve these problems in our community, and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this proclamation be distributed to <br />the public through the media and with the cooperation of various Lee <br />County businesses, industries and organizations. <br />Commissioner Hall moved to adopt the above proclamation. <br />Commissioner Paschal seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the <br />results were as follows: <br />Aye: Hall, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Chairman Stafford and Commissioner Reives updated the Board on a <br />recent local Joint Crime Task Force meeting they attended. <br />Representatives from the Sheriff's Department, Judicial System, Board <br />of Commissioners, Board of Alderman, Sanford and Broadway Police <br />Departments, Broadway Councilman, local Housing Authority and City <br />and County Representatives will make up the committee. The Task <br />Force has been formed to address concerns with the increasing crime <br />6 <br />
