0-0 19 <br />_ BOOK 14 ?AGE `J'~~ <br />MINUTES OF PUBLIC HEARING <br />HELD BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONS FOR <br />LEE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br />MONDAY, DECEMBER 14, 1992 <br />V <br />The Board of Commissioners for the County of Lee convened at the <br />Lecture Hall, Lee County Civic Center, 1801 Nash Street, Sanford, <br />N.C., at 7:00 o'clock p.m. on Monday, December 14, 1992, to conduct a <br />public hearing on the schedule of values, standards, and rules <br />proposed by the Tax Assessor to be used in appraising real property <br />at its true value and at its present use value. Those present were <br />Commissioners John R. Dossenbach, Jr., F. Hubert Garner, Bertha L. <br />Matthews, Nathan E. Paschal, Robert T. Reives, and William C. <br />Stafford, Jr. Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker was absent due to <br />illness. Chairman William C. Stafford, Jr., declared a quorum <br />present and the session open for the purpose of holding a public <br />hearing. <br />Chairman Stafford presided and the following business was <br />transacted: <br />Commissioner Matthews moved that the Board proceed to hold the <br />public hearing as advertised. Commissioner Dossenbach seconded the <br />motion and upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />AYE: Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, <br />and Stafford <br />ABSENT: Wicker <br />NAY: None <br />Chairman Stafford declared the motion had been unanimously <br />adopted and the hearing open for public comment at 7:05 o'clock p.m. <br />Prior to receiving public comment, the Chairman explained to <br />those present that the consensus of the Board was to convert poundage <br />allotments to acreage by dividing the poundage allotment by 2,000 and <br />to value the resulting acreage at $5.00 per acre. He used an <br />illustration which used a poundage of 26,000 pounds that resulted in <br />a $.51 increase in taxes. At the beginning of the session 48 people <br />were in attendance. <br />Mr. Ernest Dalrymple was recognized and his inquiry was when the <br />next revaluation would be made. He was advised that the present <br />policy was to revalue every four (4) years. <br />Mr. Max Matthews, President of the Lee County Farm Bureau, was <br /> <br />
