Consideration of Lee County's Participation in the Opioid Litigation <br /> At the April 16, 2018 regular Board of Commissioners meeting, the Board voted to <br /> authorize staff to issue a request for information for law firms who are interested in <br /> representing Lee County in any potential opioid litigation. Two law firms submitted <br /> proposals — Mike Fuller on behalf of McHugh Fuller Law and Julie Bond on behalf of <br /> Simmons Hanly Conroy Law Firm. County Attorney Whitney Parrish recommended having <br /> the law firms provide presentations and provide an opportunity for the Board to ask <br /> questions. County Manager John Crumpton recommended limiting the presentation to 15 <br /> minutes to allow time for questions. Commissioner Reives requested that Counsel ask the <br /> law firms to associate with local counsel in the federal action. Commissoner Reives asked <br /> that they proceed with their willingness to associate with local counsel. The proposed time <br /> frame for the presentations is July or August. No action was taken. <br /> C. Vote for Public Hearing for the FY 2018-2019 Fire District Budget <br /> Commissioner Reives moved to hold a public hearing on the FY 2018-2018 fire <br /> district tax rates on June 4, 2018 beginning at 6:00 p.m. Upon a vote, the results were <br /> as follows: <br /> Aye: Dalrymple, Dodson, Knecht, Oldham, Reives, Sharpe, Sloan <br /> Nay: None <br /> The Chair ruled the motion had carried unanimously. <br /> VII. NEW BUSINESS <br /> A. Renewal Contract for Inmate Labor with North Carolina Department of Public Safety <br /> General Services Director Russel Spivey stated that the current contract between <br /> Lee County General Services and the North Carolina Department of Public Safety for <br /> inmate labor will expire on June 30, 2018. Mr. Spivey requested approval of a 1-year <br /> renewal. Commissioner Sloan moved to approve a 1-year renewal of the contract with <br /> the North Carolina Department of Public Safety for inmate labor, a copy of which is <br /> attached to these minutes and by this reference made a part hereof.
