0 _t G
® LEE COUNTY_..S r
Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow
MINUTES FROM THE RECONVENED MEETING
OF THE
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
FOR THE
COUNTY OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
JULY 10, 2007
The reconvened meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County of
Lee, State of North Carolina, convened at 5:30 p.m. on said date in the
conference room at the Department of Elections Office located at 225 S. Steele
Street, Sanford, North Carolina. Commissioners Robert H. Brown and Jerry M.
Lemmond were in attendance.
Board of Elections representatives presented a plan to increase the
40 number of precincts in the county from thirteen (13) to eighteen (18) in order to
simplify ballots and avoid confusion at the polls during the 2008 presidential
election. A public hearing will be held on July 31, 2007, to receive comments
from the public on the proposed plan. If approved, the new plan would decrease
the number of precincts issuing multiple ballot forms by better aligning borders
with commissioner districts and city council wards. The plan must be approved
by the State Board of Elections and the U.S. Department of Justice before taking
effect. At least five new voting machines, totaling more than $27,000, will be
needed if the plan is approved.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 6:30 p.m. with no action taken.
Robert H. Brown, Chairman
Lee County Board of Commissioners
ATTEST:
Gaynell M. Lee, Clerk
C
