030 <br />74 MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL EMERGENCY MEETING <br />OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR <br />THE COUNTY OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * <br />THURSDAY, MARCH 25, 1993 <br />* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * <br />The special emergency meeting of the Board of Commissioners for <br />the County of Lee, State of North Carolina, convened at 4:30 P.M. on <br />Thursday, March 25, 1993, in the Conference Room of the Lee County <br />Arts Center at the corner of Weatherspoon and Steele Streets. Those <br />present were Commissioners John R. Dossenbach, Jr.; F. Hubert Garner; <br />Bertha L. Matthews; Nathan E. Paschal; Robert T. Reives; William C. <br />Stafford, Jr.; and Gordon A. Wicker. <br />J Chairman Stafford presided and the following business was <br />transacted: <br />The meeting had been called to deal with an emergency created by <br />the unexpected falling of a portion of the ceiling in a classroom <br />which required immediate consideration. <br />Russell Spivey, Operations Services Director and Travis <br />Phillips, Buildings Inspector explained to the Board some of their <br />findings from an inspection of the building. <br />After some discussion Commission Reives moved the building be <br />closed immediately until the problems can be studied or until such <br />time that the building is determined to be safe to resume occupancy <br />and authorized the County Manager to obtain request for proposals for <br />engineering services and report back to the Board for approval. Upon <br />a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford <br />and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, <br />Commissioner Matthews moved to adjourn the meeting. Upon a vote, the <br />results were as follows: <br />Aye: Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford <br />and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />1 <br />
