008 <br />buoy 5 PnE '43 <br />28-July 5, 1993 as Lee County Sobriety Checkpoint Week. Commissioner <br />Garner moved to approve the Proclamation, a copy of which is attached <br />to these minutes and by this reference made a part hereof. Upon a <br />vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford <br />and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been approved unanimously. <br />The Board considered changes for the City/County Planning and <br />Inspections Merger as proposed by the City of Sanford. After some <br />discussion chairman Stafford moved that the Lee County Board of <br />Commissioners enter into negotiations with officials of the City of <br />Sanford to explore the possibility of merging the separate planning <br />and inspection functions into a joint undertaking which would provide <br />better service at a lower cost for the citizens served. The members <br />of the committee who worked on this project represented the County, <br />the City, the Chamber of Commerce, and the general public. The <br />committee worked long and hard to fashion an arrangement which would <br />carry out its objective. The Board of Commissioners approved of <br />their work and the agreement drawn which was based upon their work <br />product. It is the consensus of the Board that it must support and <br />defend the recommendations of the committee. The Board of <br />Commissioners hopes the City of Sanford will revaluate their position <br />when they meet on July 6, 1993, and will join with the County to make <br />the merger of these functions a reality. After some discussion Commissioner Garner moved a <br />Resolution be prepared in support of inpatient psychiatric services <br />for citizens in Lee and Harnett Counties and continued state funding <br />required, a copy of which is attached to these minutes and by this <br />reference made a part hereof.
